The Story Behind the Writing

Síle's journey into garden heritage started as a child. She'd visit her grandmother's cottage in County Wicklow, wandering the estate grounds and learning the stories behind every path and planted border. That childhood curiosity turned into a career when she completed her landscape history degree at University College Dublin in 2010.

For twelve years, she worked directly at Powerscourt Gardens as a guided tour coordinator. That's where she really learned what visitors needed — especially the older ones who felt rushed or excluded by standard tours. She noticed accessibility gaps everywhere. Rest points weren't marked. Walking times were unrealistic. Information focused on Instagram moments, not actual visitor experience.

That frustration became the motivation for her transition to heritage writing. Now she conducts detailed accessibility audits at Mount Usher, Birr Castle demesne, and dozens of smaller heritage properties across the Midlands and Southeast. She's meticulous about practical details — terrain conditions, seasonal accessibility, realistic walking times, where you can actually sit down.

The Irish Tourism Board's accessibility committee has recognized her work. More importantly, she's helped hundreds of seniors discover Ireland's botanical treasures safely and enjoyably. That's what drives her.
